DIY: African Print Fabric Clutch

This project has been on my to-do list for months and I finally got around to trying it. Yesterday was the anniversary of my mother’s passing….26 years ago. My sister posted her state ID online and after years of not seeing her face as I remembered, emotions took over me. I wanted to release the sorrow I felt so I decided to create. I looked at this kente print fabric my mother in law gave me and decided this is what I will use the revamp a plain black clutch given to me as a gift.

Supplies I used:

plain clutch purse

Mod Podge

small squeegee or plastic card

paint brush

fabric

scissors

I began by coating on side of the purse with mod podge. Then I used the squeegee to smooth the fabric over the bag.

Tucking the fabric around the seams was tricky and honestly, it would have been easier to take the clutch apart and sew it back together. I actually ended up making another clutch from scratch with leather and fabric while I waited for this to dry.

Once dry, go over the bag with another layer of mod podge then allow it to dry completely.
